The Notation Manual distinguishes between reminder and cautionary accidentals; I'm not sure which you mean: "Normally accidentals are printed automatically, but you may also print them manually. A reminder accidental can be forced by adding an exclamation mark ! after the pitch. A cautionary accidental (i.e., an accidental within parentheses) can be obtained by adding the question mark ? after the pitch. These extra accidentals can also be used to produce natural signs."

... and also how does one display the abbreviated names to the left of each system.

Again, the The Notation Manual:
"The value of instrumentName is used for the first staff, and the value of shortInstrumentName is used for all succeeding staves."
- and its example:

\new Staff \with {
instrumentName = #"Violin "
shortInstrumentName = #"Vln. "
}
{ c4.. g'16 c4.. g'16 \break | c1 }
