As I wrote above, I may have a wrong perception as to what you mean by
"multiple columns".
From what you write I now derive you are talking about word processor
functionality with automatic text flow, breaking etc.
If I understood you correct, then we agree:
Lilypond can't do that.
What I was refering to is best illustrated by the list of the following
snippets from the LSR (you probably know some of them already):
