Right, it's pretty easy to agree with that.

Perhaps someone somewhere has done one of those eye-tracking A-B UI
tests on music scores to see where exactly is the balance between
information and clutter.

Sure, I'm sure if I dig deep enough it can be done.  I'll look into it.
