Not sure it will look "perfect" or "better" but, did you mean something like this?

\version "2.19.80"

\language "english"

\new Staff {
 
  \clef bass
  \relative c
 
  \repeat tremolo 8 {
    \override Beam.positions = #'(0 . 1) 
    bf,16 b' }
}


Maybe  \override Beam.positions = #'(-1 . 1)  is what you want?
You want a slant or actually closer to the note itself?

I think what you had was close...
