No, as Malte said you'll get this when placing a "|" (the barcheck) where you expect the barline. Very useful to to regularly (e.g. after every measure) to track down where something goes wrong. (In many cases when you misspell a command LilyPond will insert something like a spacer rest which wil offset the following music. So you can have barcheck errors even if your durations are all correct. *With* regular barchecks you'll easily track down such errors.

Indeed, it is, and therefore you see that space to the right of the
barline. This represents the second half of the last eighth note.
