That's probably what I want. Thanks! Could there be any drawbacks from
separate bookparts?

Writing  \override #'(line-width . 60)  before the \fill-with-pattern
command also works nicely.

At the end of the day, I have not yet encountered any major drawback of
doing everything in LilyPond.
