    Remove obsolete documentation that has become misleading
    
    In the distant past, the 'clean' target may have been specified in
    'workhorse.make', as 'clean_edg' still is, but now 'clean' has a
    simple one-line 'rm' recipe in 'GNUmakefile'--instead of being run
    in the build directory, it removes the build directory altogether.
