I want to move beyond .tar.bz2 archives. AFAICT, .tar.lzma and .tar.xz
are virtually equivalent. Is there any reason to prefer one to the other?
Sizes are virtually the same:
19358659 Jul 1 11:34 lmi-20100701T1133Z.tar.bz2
13858846 Jul 25 21:49 lmi-20100701T1133Z.tar.lzma
13861048 Jul 25 21:51 lmi-20100701T1133Z.tar.xz
and they take about the same time to create and extract.
I'm using this convenient tool (thanks to Charles Wilson)
http://sourceforge.net/downloads/mingw/MinGW/Utilities/basic%20bsdtar/
which bundles bsdtar-2.8.3 with liblzma in a native msw package. The
archives it creates can be extracted by 7zip-9.15 beta, for those who
prefer a GUI tool.
