I was expecting "NOTE:" instead of "address@hidden@address@hidden@:^@".

(Using a somewhat outdated cygwin installation (which still supports
msw-xp), that looks fine with some tools like 'cat', but like кракозябры
in 'less'.)

We hadn't noticed this previously, though we can't prove that it hasn't
always behaved this way. Kim sees this with msw-7; I see it with msw-xp
and also with 'wine':
