Well, here's how you can do it with only one @I, but I'm fairly certain
this isn't what you were looking for.

@I {
@R { This is normal text.} This is italic text. 
@LP This is the second line... 
@LP This is a third line...
}

Of course, that still creates a rectangular object and is even more
cumbersome to write.
