The actual problem is that the 1 allows Lout to interpret the following
@S as a smallcaps symbol :-(.  I expect Uwe's fix would work; I just
tried another way, enclosing the entire label in quotes, and that
fixed the problem too.

These labels are PostScript symbols but they are just words to Lout,
so they can be enclosed in quotes whenever they give trouble.

I'll check the User's Guide and warn people that digits in labels
are a bit unreliable.
