Thanks Jeffrey, that worked no problem.

Can I just thank you personally. I think Lout has the highest value of (awesomeness/underappreciation) I have ever seen for any software, let alone open source.  I would like to be able to see the source files not chopped up into numbered files, but the functionality, simplicity and documentation are absolutely first class.  I'm in awe of the time and dedication required.

Next question, how would you do nested lists?

e.g.

* BulletList item 1
* BulletList item 2
    1. Nested NumberedList item 1
    2. Nested NumberedList item 2

without any extra vertical space at the start of the numbered list?

Cheers
Jason

First post, absolutely love Lout, which I had written my PhD in it instead
of LaTeX.

Why do I get this error:

lout test.lout > test.ps
lout file "test.lout":
     5,1: no @SectionList galley target precedes this
@SectionList&&preceding

for this test.lout input:

@SysInclude { report }
@Report
//

@Section

    @Title { Heading A
}
@Begin

@PP

Some section
text
@BeginSubSections

@SubSection

    @Title { Heading B
}
@Begin

@PP

Some section B
text
@End
@SubSection

@EndSubSections

@End @Section

p.s. completely tangential, but I can't believe a gnu mailing list sends me
my password in plain text in an email upon subscription, absolutely
infuriating!

Jason,

I just tried your file, and it worked for me.

Try deleting file lout.li and running again.  Sometimes if
you run Lout with structural errors in the input, traces of
them persist on subsequent runs.  If you delete file lout.li
you get a fresh start.

Let us know how it goes.

Jeff
