Follow-up Comment #24, bug #19157 (project lwip):

SO_DONTLINGER is a non-standard option. I would be against its provision in
lwIP on that basis (why support a non-standard bell and whistle when we don't
support all standard ones!).

SO_DONTLINGER corresponds to what the standards say is the default state.
Windows may have the option, but only as a way of returning to that state.
>From Per's comment #20, if it's true that SO_LINGER defaults to on there,
then that is non-standard (Microsoft being non-standard? Surely not!). The
standard is clear on correct behaviour for a BSD sockets API. That would
explain the need for SO_DONTLINGER on Windows.
