Follow-up Comment #1:

Once we know which fields are in network byte order (;-) we could implement
defines for individual protocol headers (IP/TCP/UDP/ARP) to use host byte
order instead so that we could support accelerating MACs that can change byte
order for some known protocols on-the-fly.
