Follow-up Comment #26, task #6861 (project lwip):

Since I'm currently only checking my emails (not at home yet), I can't really
look at the code. But some comments anyway:
- The doubly linked list was necessary with my first try, I think it can be
converted to a simple linked list by remembering the previous element when
going through the list.
- I'd also vote for throwing away the oldest fragment. Although there's a
chance we throw away fragments too fast, that would be a result of
misconfiguration almost certainly.
- If combining chain and validate works, it would be good for performance.
I'm not convinced it would shrink the code much, though.
