Follow-up Comment #1, patch #7221 (project lwip):
There are three changes in the patch:
a) Check for sufficient timeouts in the pool
b) call sys_init
c) call sys_timeouts_init
Since some time, timers.c also handles timeouts for NO_SYS==1, so a) and c)
*are* necessary.
However, b) could be left away, but first I would like to know why this
hasn't been a problem so far: it's in there for some time now...
