this patch seems to be already applied to DEVEL (and maybe STABLE,
I cannot check this out at the moment).

You might have found a step-back that no one has noticed yet. Many
of us are using an older (or recent stable tree) and the amount of
testing/development seems to have been declined the last few weeks.
