The authoratative way to see what the 'version string' is would be to
look in userdefs.h .  Unfortunately, that won't really tell you what version
of lynx you are using.  All it tells you is what version you have in the
version string.

Since the version is kept in a user defined file, that might have been
replaced or patched with localazations, then there is no guaranteed way
to match what the string says with the version of the source, plus
any patches.

If you can find the version of the source code that was downloaded then
you can at least know what the original version string was.
