mea culpa: for whatever reason, I omitted a case for 'o' in W*/.../HTString.c,
around line 452 (it's treated the same as 'i', etc).

I took a look at the other formatting characters, but don't see any that
I missed.

(I've started integrating current patches, will take a couple of days to
catch up again - am stuck on a problem with xterm anyway).
