the tradeoffs are whether to write a special C program (vile and tin - and
even lynx with makeutcb) or use shell scripts (mutt, ncurses). For the
former, it's a pain because IDE-oriented stuff (such as VC) isn't designed
for this (ymmv), in the latter, the scripts end up making a lot of
assumptions that are hard to port.
