you need to add this to CPPFLAGS
-Wp,-H600000
(maybe not 600k, but it worked for me)
also, guard the include for stdarg.h with
#if HAVE_STDARG_H && ANSI_VARARGS
since HP's stdarg.h incorrectly includes varargs.h
