some people have claimed -- recently & earlier --
that preformatting documentation with <br> or <pre>...</pre>
causes problems for screens wider/narrower than the traditional 79 chars:
BL displayed text 12 (rather far-fetched) & 50 (more realistic) chars wide,
the latter causing awkward line-wrapping with <br>'s at c 65 chars.
normally, reading material is narrower than 79 chars: eg from my shelf:
SAS manual 80
hardback novel 60
paperback novel 60
New Yorker 40 / column
Financial Times (London) 25 / column
anything wider than c 80 chars is likely to be hard on R -> L eye movement,
which is presumably why magazines & newspapers -- for quick reading --
divide their texts into columns much narrower than 80 chars;
Lynx in fact uses 70 chars (cols 4 - 73) out of the 79 available.
so i have a question & a (repeat) suggestion:
how many lynx-devers regularly use Lynx with a screen width
noticeably more/less than 79 chars & in what contexts?
how difficult would it be to add an Option to vary the screen width,
incl using the whole of cols 1 - 79 available on a regular screen?
there might also be an Option to suppress <br>, if it's causing problems.
