you need to compile with --enable-nsl-fork ,
which allows you to use z to interrupt a DNS look-up;
otherwise, give us some examples of pages to test.

it puts it wherever you define TEMP_SPACE in userdefs.h .

it sounds as if you are using an old version of Lynx.
the latest is 2-8-4dev.14 from lynx.isc.org/current .
