$ /usr/local/bin/lynx -version

Possibly gnutls change? We don't see this on FreeBSD8.0 which uses
libssl, but checking the changelog I see

add workaround in CF_SSL configure macro for broken openssl pkg-config script
  on Redhat, CentOS -TD

which doesn't look relevant to your package.

Lynx Version 2.8.8dev.3 (25 Apr 2010)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, OpenSSL 0.9.8k, ncurses 5.7.20081102
Built on freebsd8.0 May  5 2010 01:50:01

$ ldd /usr/local/bin/lynx
/usr/local/bin/lynx:
        libncurses.so.8 => /lib/libncurses.so.8 (0x800759000)
        libssl.so.6 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.6 (0x8008a5000)
        libcrypto.so.6 => /lib/libcrypto.so.6 (0x8009f4000)
        libc.so.7 => /lib/libc.so.7 (0x800c8c000)
