Thanks for the patch.
The AC_CHECK_FUNCS you added should already be in aclocal.m4 (copied from
ltdl.m4) unless you are using a pre-1.5 libtool, or your aclocal program is
looking in the wrong place for ltdl.m4. Check the last line of the AC_WITH_LTDL
macro in your aclocal.m4...
