d2: we have well noted your comment about moving this to the Renderer
code and we agree with this. I am merging this current code as other
patches made by Gaël may depend on it and we want to integrate all the
developments we have done until now. Gaël will be looking at moving
this to the Renderer code as a follow-up work.
