It would be nice if certain messages could be turned off, or have some
sort of tabbed message windows.

While there is no clear function, you can get the same effect by
typing Ctrl-L. ;-)
And I agree, some ANSI colors would indeed make things awesome, enough
so I think I'm going to work up a patch to allow for it. ^.^
