In my limited experience with MXE, the stable branch did not do what
I wanted - almost instantly, I was advised to use the master branch
because the stable branch was out of date.
I would question whether maintaining two branches is an unnecessary
dilution of effort. Having two branches is certainly misleading to
newbies. Ultimately, what does the stable branch deliver other than
old versions of the master branch... which could be retrieved from
the git repo if you really needed them?
So on balance, I can see no good reason for keeping the stable
branch.
