Just so you know, I too had the same problem.
My hard drive does very evenly timed bursts of action
(around 5 seconds in between 4-5 second bursts).
It's quite bizarre, and I don't even know how to begin
troubleshooting it.

i did a
client_buffer_size 1000000
as i saw on the edonkey2k forums and that immediately fixed
my problem. the disk still accessed but it was not constant,
it was 'sane'. i could once again listen to mp3s and move
the mouse speedily. heh. it seems like i have to enter this
every time i start.. is there a way to automatically due
this or is it saved or what? also is there a way to specify
where mldonkey stores its settings? i would like to launch
it from my fluxbox menu but when i do it uses ~ as the
directory and i want to avoid clutter. (sorry for posting
this here i know its not the best spot) :)
