initlog is normally used only by initscripts (that stuff in /etc/init.d/) to 
log some startup messages to /var/log/messages. It only works if the program 
being started by it daemonizes itself, which is not the case of mldonkey. You 
should either but a & somewhere on the mldonkey line (and don't forget those 
redirects) or, even better, do not use initlog at all.
