There's no need to deal with Mozilla if you're using galeon - it uses
GNOME's protocol handlers when available. For the old galeon
(pre-GNOME2) just edit ~/.gnome/Gnome and add the following line:
ed2k-show=kmldonkey_submit "%s"
(or substitute kmldonkey_submit for your favourite tool for sending
mldonkey ed2k links - I guess most galeon users don't use KDE and
wouldn't keep kmldonkey lying around the place). In GNOME2 (Galeon
1.3.x) you can add protocol handlers in the GNOME control panel.
