Friends are just clients that you want to keep in a list, most of the
time because you are interested in the list of files they share. That
way, you can easily browse the files they share everyday for updates,
etc...

No, at least, not yet.

By IP, and by name if they don't have any IP.

None, at least currently. Moreover, you cannot know if you are in
somebody's friends.
