you will see it a starting message like
2259 ranges loaded
at startup and when you set verbosity = blocking you will see messages
of blocked hosts in the log

usually yes but as you tried yourself adding that big file (~300kb) to
your iptables will extremely slow down the system. blocking them in
mldonkey does not need much ressources.
besides that you can still browse/connect to blocked-sites with your
browser - if you block with iptables you cant!
