Why do you shut down monit instead of just doing:
# monit unmonitor mongrel-xxx
# "do your stuff"
# monit monitor mongrel
About why it fails to detect them running. Are the PID files created
instantly, maybe it takes more than 60 seconds for the PID files to be
created by mongrel? Just guessing.
