Hi,
i have seen this in the past, the problem is ssl library vs. ssl headers
version. You can use monit configure parameters to specify correct path to ssl:
./configure --help
...
--with-ssl-dir=DIR location of SSL installation
--with-ssl-incl-dir=DIR location of installed SSL include files
--with-ssl-lib-dir=DIR location of installed SSL library files
