I just pushed changes addressing the above bugs and hopefully also
helping us get a handle on the other FTBFSes.  Please check and upload
t:monotone-0.40-2.  I'm attaching the .diff.gz I got from a trial
build, relative to the official monotone-0.40 tarball.  Note that
Makefile.am got modified on the branch, so you may need to re-run
automake, sigh.  Also, there are some file deletions in here.

I can't do a proper signed .changes bundle for you, because my GPG key
is only on the computer that's decided to crash once every half hour
:(
