Thanks, Jits. As it happens, I went back to scratch in creating a simple html
page with embedded shadowbox and from that figured out what I was doing wrong:
guess that shows it doesn't pay to work late at night (at least in my case).
I've now got a simple box showing up with a 'hello world' message: now to
populate it with the claim info and fire the skua post. I'll also take a look
at the site you mentioned in case shadowbox breaks down the line. If I get
shadowbox working otoh, I'll make the instructions available.

I've also not had much luck with using existing lightbox/popup JS
libraries in our codebase.
However, recently I came across this blog post:

chance to try this out myself, but it might be useful for you?
