As I guess the RPM installed it in /usr, if you compile nano 1.1 from a
tarball, by default it will install the stuff in /usr/local.
If so, you can just create a symlink in /usr/local/bin/nano1.1 -> nano.
As both nano's are installed in different trees, they will read their
own .mo (translation) files, from /usr/share/locale and
/usr/local/share/locale, respectively.

I don't know if there's an RPM, but if you build one, you probably can
do the trick by overriding the PACKAGE name in configure.
