My guess is, a more common name for that feature might be "bookmark".
Other editors tend to refer to selected text as, well,.. a "selection".
:)

- Nedit uses the term "mark". Also uses "selection" to describe
selected text.

- Vim uses the terms "mark" and "selection" as well.

- I think emacs may use the terms "mark" and "point" (cursor location),
with the text area between the mark and point referred to as a
"region" (selected text).

- I think Joe's Own Editor refers to them as bookmarks. Also uses
the term "selection".

- ne (the Nice Editor) refers to them as bookmarks also.

Why does nano use the term "mark" rather than "select"?
Could "mark" be changed to "select", and then nano could
just use "mark" (or bookmark)?

I know, when I first used nano, I thought that "mark" was
an odd name to use to describe selecting text...
