Ehm, yes.  That solves the glueing of two undos into one,
but it breaks this case: a single Backspace followed by some
text addition.  For example, type this line:

one two three

Then do:  <Backspace>  x  <M-U>

It says "Undid action (text add)" but the "x" does not disappear.
Another <M-U> adds back the "e", so now it says "threex".  And
yet another <M-U> leaves a lone "x" and nothing more to undo.

That's okay.  But if you will, now please first -R apply your
own patch, then apply the attached, and work from there.
