Well, there's already audio feedback when hitting some unbound keys,
for example in the main menu: M-4, M-5, M-7, M-8. Or ^R followed by
^Q, ^W, ^R, ^Y... In several other menus unbound keys are silent nor
is there any feedback on the status bar. It is on my todo list to make
this more consistent.

Anyway, people who don't want any sounds should mute the speaker,
or work on a terminal that doesn't support beeps (like a VT, here),
because even a Backspace at a bash prompt produces a beep for me,
in a Gnome Terminal.

Maybe also the regular view mode (--view) should not disable ^O:
the user cannot edit anything anyway, so there's no harm in allowing
him or her to write something out (under the same or a different name).
Only the file timestamp would change -- if that should be prevented, the
file should be made unwritable.

Pico allows ^O in view mode.
