Should nano source be using tabs or spaces for indentation?

There are 9476 lines starting with a tab, 5623 lines starting with 4 spaces, 5 
lines starting with 3 spaces and 942 lines contain a tab followed by one or 
more spaces. Of the lines starting with a tab: 246 have 1 space (after the 
tab), 3 have 2 spaces, 4 have 3 spaces and 2032 have 4 spaces.
