Hmmm...  With code, where most of the stuff is indented,
including the separating column in the coloring of the line
number looks okay.  But when looking at a plain text file
that simply starts at the left margin, the separating column
"glues" too much to the text.  So no, this column will stay
blank.

But the patch is simple, if you want to apply it locally.
