Ah!  Ok.  I had forgotten that (due to another suggestion that I had
found from googling) I had also put this into .mh_profile:

automimeproc: 1

So I just commented that out, and then made sure I had "-attach X-MH-Attachment"
set for both whatnow _and_ send (apparently it _does_ need to be set on both)
and now I can do attachements.  Yep, it's working.
