It's not an issue of permissions; it's creating the file in the cwd which
happens to be exported to other machines where people wonder what it's doing
there and su to find out.  In case you're not familiar with dropbox, it
runs a daemon that automatically imports/exports a set of directories so that
they can be shared with other users.  It differs from nfs in that the other
user's machines are not under your control having the same user names and so
on.  So this is a new problem created by a new product.

Much appreciate your taking a crack at fixing it.  Just out of curiosity, why
was this ever there in the first place?
