the problem of pam, that you need linux, and linux administrador must give you a unix user
mariadb can run on linux and windows
should be nice a native mysql/mariadb implementation

PostgreSQL supports PAM logon. So if you install PostgreSQL + PAM + OATH
toolkit, you should be able to use PostgreSQL with OATH.

Does the same apply for MySQL. Can't you use a PAM plugin?
