You can run "autoheader" to generate a config.h.in . I can build the
library using the following sequence:
$ autoheader
$ autoconf
$ make byte # bytecode lib
$ make opt # native lib

Yes, some documentation would be good. And it would also be good if
the release tarball did not depend on autotools.
