Details:

I am having frequent failures running 'make check' on the latest development
code.  The particular test script in question is test_diag_perms.m.

To reproduce, start in the development code directory and type
cd test
../run-octave -f
test test_diag_perms

You may need to run the test line several times to induce the behavior.  In
my experience, it always produces a segmentation fault in less than 10 tries.

I am using a very up-to-date mercurial tip (fdf28dae0f37
) and a gnulib that was pulled on 4/19/2010.

I am attaching a backtrace from gdb pinpointing the line in Sparse.cc that
caused the failure.
