Follow-up Comment #10, bug #29553 (project octave):

I still am unable to reproduce the problem on my system after configuring
with the options

  --without-arpack
  --without-umfpack
  --without-cholmod
  --without-ccolamd
  --without-amd
  --without-colamd
  --without-cxsparse
  --without-qrupdate

After building, I verified that Octave and eigs.oct are not linked with any
of these libraries.

What lapack and blas libraries do you have installed?

Can you step through the EIG::init function as I asked?  If you can narrow
down where wi.rep becomes invalid, maybe I can help debug the problem. 
Otherwise, I have to guess that it is a problem with the lapack library on
your system, and since I can't reproduce the problem, I can't debug it.
