Follow-up Comment #12, bug #29878 (project octave):
Maybe external drives are handled differently so that they don't get
corrupted when the get suddenly yanked out "unsafely". Internal drives could
get a kernel emulation layer that makes them behave more like NTFS. This could
make sense.
